Web Site Owner Questions

If your specific question is not covered below, please post a message in our forum and we will be happy to answer it.

I made a change and I don’t see it on the page?

Changes to some functions (approved videos, folders, etc etc) can take 10 minutes or more as the server cycles through it’s cache.

I have the Free Vidiac service; can I still run my own advertising?

Yes, of course! You can run advertising around (outside) of the Vidiac interface. We give you the ability to insert HTML before and After the Vidiac interface, and that includes the ability to run advertising if you wish.

What process does a video go through once uploaded?

All Videos go through the following process

  1. Encoding: A user's video has been uploaded into the system. Our servers take the video and re-encode it into 320px x 240px x 400Kbps Windows Media 9. This is to standardize all videos into the same format. This step can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 10 hours depending on encoding server load (we are working on speeding that up by adding another encoder, which should get things consitantly less than 1 hour). During encoding the user that uploaded the video has a link to their vid but when they go to the site they will see a "Video is being optimized" clip.
  2. New, Not Moderated: After a video has been encoded, a user can view the video and share the video with others. However, the video will not appear on the "Hottest Uploads" or "Recent Uploads" or any searches. This is to insure that users can get to their videos as soon as they're ready, but such un moderated videos won't appear on your site until you've reviewed them.
  3. Moderated: In order to moderate a video you must log in using your Site-Admin user name and password. Click the "moderate tab" at the top of the page and you will see a listing of videos awaiting moderation. If you do not see any videos, then you do not need to moderate any videos. Once you have approved a video, then it will begin to appear in searches and on the "recent Uploads" and "hottest Uploads" pages.

What are the moderation choices and what do they mean?

Video States

  • New
Videos awaiting approval and not moderated. Video is playable, but cannot be searched on and will not be shown on the main page as a thumbnail.
  • Approve
Video is searchable and visible on the main page as a thumbnail.
  • Duplicate
Content is playable, but not searchable and will not show up on the main page.
  • Don't want it
Use for Off-Topic Videos. Content is playable, but not searchable and will not show up on the main page. Video will be published to another Vidiac affiliate site.
  • Corrupted
Use for damaged Videos. Video will be made unplayable, and a warning video will play in it's stead asking for the content owner to re-upload the content.
  • Copyrighted
Use for Copyrighted Videos. Video will be made unplayable, and a warning video will be played stating it was removed for copyright violation.
  • Inappropriate
Use for Pornography or objectionable content. Video will be made unplayable and a warning video will be played stating it was removed because either it was inappropriate or bad content.
  • Delete
Video is deleted from the system, no explanation will be given. Message will state "Video Removed".

How do you add Folders or Categories to the Thumbnail section?

"Folders" or "Categories" are actually pre-canned searches. That is, on StreetFire, clicking Pontiac actually searches the system for "Pontiac, Firebird, Trans Am, GTO, Grand Prix, Grand Am, Solstice, etc etc etc". This way, as new content is uploaded, it will automatically be put in the appropriate folder based on keyword in the description and file name. this should come in handy as your site grows in activity.

So, how do you add Categories to your site?

Log into your Admin account, select the Admin tab, then folders, and add folders.

Who owns Videos uploaded to a Vidiac site?

Ownership of the video's Copyright is not transferred and remains with the creator of the content. Vidiac assumes "Distribution rights" from the content creator, and Vidiac has the right to redistribute it as we need to or syndicate it across our network of channels. Site owners are able to manage content tagged to their domain, but Vidiac reserves the right to syndicate content if the uploading user (content owner) allows it. Ownership is tagged to the uploading user’s email address, unless it is a copyright alert in which case the Vidiac staff will investigate to insure proper copyright compliance.

Can I get “Distribution Rights” to content uploaded to my portal?

Yes, if you are using Vidiac Enhanced service, you can acquire Distribution rights. In this case we will make all videos uploaded to your site available via FTP and will not syndicate this content to other Vidiac Channel sites.

How do I change the Look of my Web site?

Log into your Admin Control Panel and select "Site Skin (Look and Feel)". Change the setting from "Default" to "Custom" and you will now see three text boxes. The Pre-Portal Code box is for HTML code before the Vidiac portal. The Post-Portal Code box is for HTML after the Vidiac Portal. The "CSS" box is for style sheet changes to change the background color, text and general look and feel of buttons, links, etc.

OH NO! I messed up my Web Site and I don't have a copy of the last good skin!

Okay, first, DON'T DO THAT! Allways save a copy of your last good skin to your local machine. If you're really past the point of no return and you have to hard reset the look and feel for your web site, then do so at.. http://YourVidiacAddress.com//resetskin.aspx Note using this form will cause your old skin to be blown away... just a warning.
